Book Giveaway: Bad Science

by Blake on December 11, 2008

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday season, I am giving away my copy of Bad Science by Ben Goldacre. While I would like to give it to every high school senior in the country, I have only the one copy, and will be giving it to one of my readers.

If you are interested, leave a comment on this post by 11:59 PM EST, 12/24/2008. I will draw the winner’s name literally from a hat on the morning of the 25th. What better way to celebrate Newtonmas than with a book about the scientific method?

Please do not include personal contact information in your comment. Just fill in your email address as required by WordPress, and I will contact the winner on the 25th.

I have read this copy of the book (and will be posting a review soon), so don’t expect it to be in mint condition. But it’s in pretty good shape, with no handwriting on the inside (which was very difficult for me to avoid).

Bad Science has not been published in the US (I picked mine up in London over Thanksgiving), and because of that, this giveaway is open to US mailing addresses only. (Apologies to all of you sceptics, but at least you can walk into a Waterstone’s and pick one up yourself.)

Good luck, and look for my review next week.

[Update: My review has now been posted. To all you Pharyngulites, thank you for coming, and I hope you have some time to look around the site.

To answer a question that has been asked several times in the comments: It is for US addresses only because non-US addresses require customs forms, and customs forms require me to stand in line at a New York City post office.

Also, due to the unexpected demand, I will no longer be literally drawing a name from a hat. I will be using random.org to randomize the list of all email addresses, then have the random integer generator select a number. The idea of writing out all of your names on paper and then placing them in a hat was a bit overwhelming. This solution is the fairest and most economical. And, please, while it is tempting, let's not have a discussion about randomization methods.]

I actually have a copy of this book but wouldn’t mind getting to choose who to give it to if I get picked. :-D

hey, this is v v kind, it’ll be out in america soon, various publishers are a bit worried the examples are too english, so it’ll either have things chopped out, or american examples to replace, although i came to america this year, and felt like i’d really like to be out there for a couple of months to get my head around the kind of nonsense you have in your mainstream media, before i was able to really torpedo it,

Whoa… this is a big hat. I’m looking forward to this book no matter how I get my hands on a copy.

What a fun idea! By the way, his uncle is a well-known science journalist and radio broadcaster in Australian, Robyn Williams.

As Random Sentence Generator said, “A soul doses a geology next to the rotating wrecker.
